Be proactive, not reactive when it comes to BDR

Picture this: The CEO’s laptop crashes. He had been storing data locally. Now, an expensive data recovery service is needed to recover files that could have been backed up on the server or to the cloud. In addition, without an image-based restore, the laptop must be rebuilt from scratch and any customizations reapplied. The effort required takes not just hours, but days. It is much faster to perform an image-based or cloud backup restore.

Auriga recommends:

Testing backups periodically.
Backing up databases independently of the host server.
Documenting all usernames/passwords in a password-protected sheet.
Using ioSafe Network-Attached Storage (NAS) to protect against natural disasters.
Co-locating backups or storing backups in the cloud in case of regional disasters.
